Time to fly!

I once saw this artist who had made a chair that was floating in the air by the repelling force of magnets

and it raised a question that got stuck in to my mind;

How would it feel like to lie on a floating bed ?

Well I had to find out, so this is the story about it :)

I got this awesome pile of wood from a friend, and with some pondering I figured out how to make a bed out of it.

 Made few little adjustments.

Tested it out.

Got the legs ready for the magnets.

And the when the package of eight 400 kilo neodym magnets arrived,

 I carefully sealed them inside the legs.

(without any darn metal on the table) :D

Then made all the attachements to keep the bed from floating around the house ;)

 

Piled it up to for the test.

And Got all the answers needed!

Goggels behold!

As many of you might know, I'm attending the Recycling factory in couple of weeks as my first exhibition and on top of this I opt to participate to a recycle-fashion-kinda-costume-contest as a Airship Engineer !

So I have a costume to make and since good goggles are such a crucial part of steampunk I just had to make a pair.

 This is what I found for this, an old oil lamp and a lens collection from a epidiascope.

 Everything set apart to the useful pieces. 

 Lens set inside the crown to make it work as a telescope with another lens in front of the eye.

 Some leather glued to back and front.

 And behold the goggles! Works with bronzen boys,

                                            Babies,

With my wife :),

And with me with the hat of an airship engineers!

Needless to say, it's luxury!

I found this old drawer of a sewing machine table under our fireplace amongst old firewood stacked there

 and aspired to do something cool with it!

So I took an old waterfilter thingy and cut a good chunk out of it.

 

 Gave it a good spank.

Then drilled some holes with some help.

 Lined the box with some rough hemp fabric.

Made a apecialized hinge for the door and some mountings for the hanging.

Aaand here we have it! A wine bottle showcase for a dining room that has everything. 

True luxury! Never know I needed one before I had it! ;)

The Day of the Tentacle

What a gift I got, a bunch of classy cabinet knobs!

 First I snapped the screws and got them upside down.

Then drilled some holes in to a-half-a-horse-collar with old log drill.

 Evened it out from the ends and added some brackets for the wall.

 Moved a piece of iron from the end to the middle to get some leverage from the wall.

And it's ready to go! A tentacle.. or maybe something from a ship wreck.. those things tend to look a like...? :)

Shock teraphy!

 

I got this wonderful little box as a heritage from my past grandma and I sertainly had proper use for it. 

 This device was build by my father with his brother somewhat half a century ago. It is a sort of transformer, made to prank peole with electric shocks. Though with my brothers and friends we took it as a hobby to make a circle holding hands and get some high voltage shocks out of it.

 

That plastic container in the middle came from a juice bottle and I installed it almost fifteen years ago to keep this thing together. I wasn't too satisfied to it even then, but had nothing better in my hands. 

Now these lovely items came to help, a frame of a coffee grinder and a switch.

This old pump offered its hand(les).

And here it is,

 a box full of suprise!

 

Tuning in!

 I had this old knee-chair in my workshop - cushions and fabrics braking apart - so I got the idea of tuning it a bit.

And since I'm doing this blog, my brother happened to give me a pile of strange junk to work with.

 I got an idea to tune the chair bit more and make the piece of wood as a back rest for the chair.

 Took everything apart. Old foams had became partly dust, and none of it was too attractive,

but the frame had actually nice curves.

 

So I flipped the spike threads to the other side to get that pristine surface of wood that was inside to the bottom. 

 Then took apart this old mattress and cut the cushions out of it.

 Piled it up, sew it on and made it ready for the surface.

             And finally wrapped the leather.

 Then modelt these old irons from a raincutter in their place.

Fit in the back rest and made a small cushion for it.

And added these random pieces of another chair I found drifting in the river the day I was making this, then made a small box behind the seat.

And here it is, a strange coincidence for a chair.
